This style of furniture came into existence during the late part of the 19th century and continues on into the 21st century. Unlike the intricate and elaborate Victorian styles of the 18th and early 19th century, for example, this furniture is all about large sizes, clean lines, and often vivid colors and patterns. An overstuffed couch would be an example of furniture that would be considered modern. Whereas earlier couches were often made with darker woods, such as maple, and were dainty in design and not necessarily comfortable, modern furniture is the opposite.
