You can change the height of the sofa with the height of the legs.
If short on space but need maximum sitting area, think about having no arms on your sofa.
Fabrics best for children and pets are easy to clean, maintain a high rub count, and have a simple construction. Fabrics with these qualities will hold up better when subjected to heavy use. Look for synthetic materials like polyester, nylon, and acrylic and avoid natural fibers like cotton and rayon which are more likely to sbsorb stains. Avoid weaves and intricate fabrics which are easier for claws and fingers to snag, and often make hair removal more difficult.
If you are looking for very sharp lines on your upholstered pieces, use 100% foam on your cushions (no feathers). Feather fills make cushions slightly more rounded
The smaller the cushion, the firmer the sit. With larger cushions, the weight is able to be displaced over a larger area so it will feel like you sink a bit more.
When choosing legs, think about the depth and design of the model. Typically, the deeper the frame the lower the leg should be. If the leg is too tall for a deep frame, the sit will not be comfortable. Also consider the thickness of the arm, as well as the angles of the sofa frame, and find a leg that is complimentary.
Protect your floor by adding small rubber pads on the bottom of the sofa legs. Not only will it prevent scratching, but it will make sure your pieces sit still when you don't. Use felt pads for the opposite effect, allowing easy movement of your furniture on hardwood floors.
If you want an "L" sectional but don't want the corner piece, think about placing an ottoman in the corner or even an end table.
Accent pillows can be used to provide needed color, texture and additional back support.
